The Edge

Josh Olins takes Karolina Kurkova back to her avant-garde roots in i-D‘s new issue, shooting her in gritty black and white portraits styled expertly by Alastair McKimm. Karolina’s typically glamorous presence is transformed in this story that takes menswear inspired looks and turns them on their heads with a dash of ingenuity; Karolina in stripped down Stella McCartney and Calvin equals perfection.

  1. love High Fashion KK! always preferred it to bombshell KK. she just suits it better in my opinion. well done Karolina! welcome back. hope she gets some more covers now! amazing comeback and one of the best models of the early 2000’s.

  2. first time in years i give her a second look. perhaps a long-term editorial comeback is possible?

(i swear i posted this yesterday. are posts that are not gushing over a model/picture deleted now? would be irrational given that kk’s career will carry on regardless of my or anyone else’s personal opinion…)

  3. Could be worse.. the last pic is terrible, the others are alright. I don’t know, I don’t wanna be a bitch but it’s like she hasn’t aged well (and I know she’s not old lol, I’m just saying she didn’t make it from 16 to 26 like almost all the other models, who in fact look better with age).

I remember some amazing editorials in Vogue Paris with KK.. maybe I’m just comparing these pics with her older pics.

  4. Incredible to have her back in full swing.
Her recent editorial is October’s Elle is gorgeous.

Seeing her on the runways this current season is such a time warp – especially in the couple of shows which features Rianne Ten Haken and Erin Wasson.

No she doesn’t have the summery glisten and evident joy in her face as she did post leave but perhaps she will get back to that place is she so desires.

  5. (cont.) I am really glad to see Karolina’s comeback to HF. The girl WAS sex on heels for VS, but KK (to me) brings something special to the plate. She has had a pretty good year all-around, and she is gonna SLAY in 2011! And at the same time, as a whole I love how a lot of the early ’00 girls(Raquel, Mariacarla, Daria, Isabeli, Karolina, Giselle, Liya, Natalia etc.) have become so influential in the industry after so many years still. True powerhouses, AND NOT FADS. Makes me think we are in a new supermodel era.
