I’m VERY impressed with Oscar de la Renta’s near-50% inclusion of models of color. Really, this should be the norm in any show.

Finally something new! I like it.

I think Jezebel is overrated but that was an interesting feature. I think that the New York designers / casting directors have always been more accepting when it comes to models of color, the real test for me is Europe. Will the notoriously whitewashed runways of Milan embrace diversity? Lets see how things pan out.

Oscar De La Renta is one of the classiest people in fashion. I also hear his son Moises is moving into fashion, what a talented family.

Jezebel and Tatiana are to be commended for doing all that work. The numbers don’t lie.

I wish designers who claim to be New York designers would move their all-white or only a couple of token non-whites “creativity” and “vision” elsewhere.

That includes the group that only managed to cast 1-9% models of color this past season: Donna Karan, BCBG Max Azria, Calvin Klein, Cynthia Rowley, Erin Fetherston, Hervé Leger by Max Azria, Jill Stuart, Marchesa, Matthew Williamson, Max Azria, Miss Sixty, Monique Lhuillier, Narciso Rodriguez, Phi, Philosophy, Proenza Schouler, Reem Acra, Rodarte, Tuleh, Vivienne Tam.

And don’t get me started on

…And don’t get me started on the so-called NY designers who didn’t book black models: Alexandre Herchcovitz, Behnaz Sarafpour, Costello Tagliapietra, Erin Fetherston, Halston, Marchesa, Max Azria, Milly, Miss Sixty, Monique Lhuillier, Nicole Miller, Philosophy, Reem Acra, Tibi, TSE, United Bamboo, Vena Cava, VPL, Vivienne Tam.

    i beg a pardon??

  9. issac says:

Love that the diversity is growing in NY shows unlike Milan..hope this spreads to male modeling too.

The diversity issue in male modeling is more serious, so let’s try to act on that as well! It’s not only white people who design and buy designer labels, and loves fashion.
