The Iris Allure
February 17th, 2009 Janelle comments (18)What do you get when you combine Iris Strubegger, Mert & Marcus, Chanel and inspiration taken from the legendary Ms. McMenamy herself? You get the cover of the month. Vogue Paris‘ March fashion extravaganza hits newsstands with a heavy dose of Coco and a fair bit of nostalgia. Mert and Marcus transform the ever evocative Iris into a picture of pure luxury. Fashion fans may remember Kirsten McMenamy receiving similar treatment from Steven Meisel on the cover of Vogue Italia way back in 1992. What better way to pay tribute to the house eternal allure of Chanel than with two equally inspiring covers.

It’s classy, no doubt, but to me it’s not THE cover of the month…

Quivering with rage: I think it’s fine to revisit and update a good concept after letting it rest, especially after SEVENTEEN YEARS. After all, a whole new generation of fashion fans are coming into the fold.
This cover is clearly an “homage”, not a “rip-off” – the latter of which I share a distaste too.

They are both hideous!
I find the Vogue Paris cover to be dated and boring.
The editorial will probably look like something from the Dec/Jan issue with Stephanie of Monaco.

I love the Meisel cover, although the photo was taken before the expression ‘camel-toe’ was born
