Age of the Talkies
July 7th, 2010 Janelle comments (37)These days It is not enough to just have a splashy print campaign; fashion brands are branching out with videos to match their campaign imagery. Always at the forefront of things is Miuccia Prada, this season both Prada and Miu Miu have corresponding videos that bring their engaging ads to life; Angela Lindvall sings a torch song in one clip and Lindsey Wixson, Siri Tollerod, Ginta Lapina and Daphne Groeneveld make mischief in the other. Which do you prefer?

The Miu Miu campaign lacks the depth that Prada has — but I guess that is the essence of a younger line. The makeup and casting, though meant to be seen as younger and fresher, comes off as cheap and costume-y. That, and Angela’s singing is much more believable in motion than in still print.

WOW. Both are absolutely spectacular. Angela quickly grew to become one of my favorites thanks to her VS days and the last few Jimmy Choo ad campaigns. However, having that millisecond dance break pushed the Miu Miu spot over the edge for me! They win.

Miu Miu, it captures the energy and vitality of the campaign perfectly. Love the music, and superb editing.

Miu Miu, it is more artistically driven. the Prada one is predictable, there is no element of surprise.

I do like the Miu Miu commercial more, but I don’t like the fact that there are commercials for high fashion houses. I didn’t like the ad campaigns either quite frankly. Clement and Mathias did a great job tho. Prada has been disappointing me more and more as time goes by. I miss the Sasha days.

la signora Prada probably decide to put some money in the bank cos both the ads r way too commercial and honestly kind of cheap comparing whit what Prada s always been…n if u want sexy.. please dont use lindvall

i think both videos take away from the ad campaigns. to echo oscar, commercials are not fitting for luxury brands. if it were more of a video editorial or short story that would be more suitable.

Oh and any ad that uses Jesus Loves You’s ‘Generation of Love’ is alright by me.
Having said that, 4 white blondes again. Really??? Would it be too hard to add some ‘texture’?

Well I like Prada better.. makes me sort of like the print ads too.
Miu Miu is sort of predictable, the brand being the younger, cooler sister to Prada.. Ginta looks pretty good, and Lindsey W looks like some 1920′s actress, what a great face.

I THINK I ACTUALLY LOVE THE MIU MIU ADVERT MORE THAN THE GUCCI BY GUCCI ADVERT AND I LIKE THE THING THEY DO AT 00.34 SO COOL ♥

Lindsay has the strongest face of the bunch. All I see is her, although its strange since she has the roundest and the softest face.

Bravo! Fashion has always been about life and art and beauty and colour and image and movement, and what better way to encapsulate that than in video and film? It is exciting to see all these hot new artistic films with designers and their models and team pushing the edges of creativity even further than a still based image. Prada is great, super cool clip, wish it was longer, Miu Miu is beautiful, great clothes, color, and make up, and amazing models, would like to see some different action in it however, that is less of the same thing over and over. In all however, this is all great!

I disagree with the statements of ‘commercials aren’t suited for luxury labels.’ I think it’s an excellent idea. It’s a way to promote a collection (the point, duh). But also provides a little more creativity for television. I’m tired of watching McD commercials. Beyond that, it’s entertaining as all hell and informs the public on what’s in Vogue. What’s wrong with that? Nothing. Think about how many jobs there will be if other fashion houses follow. I think it’s an excellent idea.
