Full Throttle

July 11th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Saying that Isabeli Fontana is sexy is a bit like saying water is wet, but the Brazilian bombshell is in rare form in the pages of Vogue Russia. Shot by Terry Tsiolis and sporting a variety of plunging necklines and sinewy shapes selected by Karen Langley Isabeli radiates heat in the sleek studio images. Even when she’s covered in by graphic Proenza Schouler and Christopher Kane prints she still manages to look every inch the vixen.

Proenza’s Pulse

July 10th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Proenza Schouler ‘s fall campaign kicks off with a bang, David Sims shoots show opener Julia Bergshoeff in the duo’s kinetic designs for a striking set of images. In the capable hands of Marie Chaix (Art Partner) the collection comes to life the black and white patterns popping against the bright background. The effervescent, Ron Nagle influenced autumn collection explored ideas about action and motion and those themes repeat here. Bleached brows courtesy of Diane Kendal and a sleek coif by Guido Palau complete the vibe to create a look worthy of Jack & Lazaro’s cool girls.

Kenzo Kreative

July 9th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

kenzo

If there is one brand that understands the importance of originality it is Kenzo, under the direction of Humberto Leon & Carol Lim the line has utilized innovative advertising and an off-kilter aesthetic filled with fun and hypnotic visuals. For fall the label enlists Toilet Paper Magazine aka the creative duo of Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari to create a kooky world filled with surrealist details. Fans of David Lynch will see nods to classics like Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet in Cattelan & Ferrari’s accompanying films and the campaign’s saturated images. When you take into consideration that Lynch designed the set for Kenzo’s fall show the homage seems fitting, but this cool campaign is more than a tribute. Guinevere Van Seenus and Robbie McKinnon bring the story to life with charm, making even the boldest patterns and brightest colors look just right.

The In Crowd

July 8th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

A gathering of cool kids will always be a fashion moment unto itself and Steven Meisel taps into that idea for the latest issue of Vogue Italia. Instead of an otherworldly setting Meisel enlists Edie Campbell, Lexi Boling, Amanda Murphy, Vanessa Moody, Julia NobisMeghan CollisonRJ King, Yuri Pleskun, David Axell, Geron McKinley, Dorian Reeves, David Alexander Flinn, Cameron Keesling and Tobias Hayduk for a pared down shoot that recreates the look and feel of a happening cafe setting. Mariana Santana and Anna Ewers join the fun in the accompanying editorial where models blow smoke rings as they sport heavy black liner and subtly 60s style coifs for a look that nods to the retro without being too referential. As usual Mary Howard‘s production design is flawless and the New Wave vibes are hammered home by Pat McGrath‘s makeup and Guido Palau‘s hair.

Optology Issue #3

July 7th, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

When Jonathan Arundel launched his photography and fashion journal Optology Magazine last year, he quickly established a high standard for the publication’s content and design, with rich, gorgeous stories and a sui generis, pared-down aesthetic. The latest issue, the third, is no different, starting from the charming portrait of a smiling Ben Allen that graces the glowing yellow cover. The features within hew to the quiet vision of the magazine, which bills itself as “dedicated to showcasing the finest photography and styling talent.” The cover story within, shot by Harry Carr with styling by Hannah Elwell, captures a new maturity in the young Allen, while Elliot Vulliod headlines his own story and up-and-comers like Dylan Fosket and Karlis Adlers are featured as well. Thomas Giddings gives us a pensive feature starring Andreas Lindquist with styling by Andreas Kokkino, with a gentle mood that carries over into Fanny Latour-Lambert (Walter Schupfer Management)’s images (styling by Optology’s fashion director Madeleine Østlie), which offer hushed slices of thoughtful youth at play.

Gucci’s Girls

July 3rd, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Gucci has always had a clear understanding of its ideal woman and each season it picks a cast that reflects that ethos. This time around Frida Gianinni and co. take things one step further with a campaign featuring seven top models who exemplify the modern Gucci woman. Anja Rubik, Joan Smalls, Raquel Zimmermann, Nadja Bender, Suvi Koponen, Karmen Pedaru and Natasha Poly  feature in stylized shots by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. (Art Partner) In a season filled with high concept campaigns it’s refreshing to see ads where the clothes and the girls are at the forefront. The collection’s pastel tones and ultra-luxe accessories are front and center in the simple studio shots that make every item look like a must have.
