Sharper Imagery

December 5th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Stockholm S/S/A/W Magazine kicks their latest issue off right with a stark and striking story by Kai Z Feng, styled in minimalist perfection by Tom Van Dorpe (Paris: Management + Artists, New York: Management + Artists). When you’ve got glorious black and white, two incredible models and some of the best clothes of the season – what more do you need really? Meghan Collison and Sara Blomqvist add a dose of sleek glamour, but just a touch – the power of this story lies in its effortless simplicity.

Editorial Inspiration : Jerry Hall

December 4th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Open up the new Vogue Italia and you’ll see the stunning Vanessa Axente looking amazing in Steven Meisel‘s ultra-chic imagery, but take a closer look and you may get a case of deja vu. Don’t those long blonde waves look familiar, isn’t the outsized eroticism and in your face glamour reminiscent of a time, a place? If you started to hear the Rolling Stones playing the background and got a distinctly 70s feel from the entire endeavor, you’re on the right track. Meisel looks back to the iconic allure of Jerry Hall and the saturated, decadent imagery of the disco era. You’ll see hints of Helmut Newton, Willie Christie, Antonio Lopez and more in Meisel’s images, while Karl Templer transforms Resort pieces into over the top looks fit for Studio 54. With a swipe of Pat McGrath applied red lipstick and a Guido Palau coiffed waves, Vanessa transforms into a latter day Jerry, while Marlon Teixeira provides the manpower. Fueled Up

December 3rd, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

We’re used to seeing Daria Strokous looking beyond elegant in ads for Jil Sander and Dior, but it is always interesting to see a photographer take the refined beauty in another direction. Hugh Lippe uncovers the edge beneath Ms. Strokous’ refined exterior in a new story for FAT Magazine that showcases another side of the Russian beauty. Focusing on a look that is raw and edgy with a hint of danger, Lippe along with stylist Joanne Blades create a compelling alternative to the typical fashion edit – check out the story, exclusive outtakes and the accompanying fashion film below.

The Biz : Wang Confirmed

Alexander Wang taking the reigns at Balenciaga is a story that will likely dominate the fashion headlines for the next few months. Whether you’re still in mourning after Nicolas Ghesquiere‘ departure, or simply charting the seemingly endless designer shuffle that seems to sum up the current state of flux that permeates the entire industry, this is arguably the most exciting fashion news in a long time. Ever since Cathy Horyn revealed the scoop in her NY Times column the subject has been hotly debated. The one thing everyone can agree on though, is that this begins a new chapter for Balenciaga, one that will determine the brand’s future. We will be waiting with baited breath to see what Wang comes up with for his first Balenciaga collection.

Another exciting new appointment, The Last Magazine‘s Magnus Berger has been named the new creative director of Wall Street Journal’s WSJ magazine. Considering the uniqueness and beauty to be found in every single issue of The Last, we’re expecting big things from WSJ in the coming months.

Karl Lagerfeld never stops, so it is no surprise to find that he’s part of another exciting collaboration. Lagerfeld and Brazilian line Melissa shoes have teamed up for a new global partnership, one where Lagerfeld will design 4 special footwear capsule collections, the first of which will be unveiled in March 2013.

Pre-fall collections are starting to trickle in, with new looks from Belstaff, Helmut Lang and Reed Krakoff.

The line between art and commerce blurs even further with Net-A-Porter set to launch a print magazine, which will surely be as elegant as their online editorials.

To end our news brief on a high and start the week out with some beauty, take a look at Elie Saab‘s latest fashion film, a delightful tour around Paris featuring the brand’s decadent resort collection.
