When Yayoi Met Marc

June 14th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

As the king of the artist collaboration Marc Jacobs has been able to pull in some real heavy hitters over the years to work with Louis Vuitton. Who can forget the mega-brand’s collaborations with Richard Prince, Julie Verhoeven and perhaps most famously, Takashi Murakami. Previous collabos aside, LV may have outdone itself with their collection created with Japanese art legend, Yayoi Kusama. Each piece is covered in Kusama’s signature psychedelic dot prints, but boasts a very LV take on chic. Dazed & Confused features the collection in a story by Leigh Johnson, featuring Tilda Lindstam. The shoot styled by Karen Langley captures Tilda’s innate cool and the appealing wearability of the designs.

The Look of: Yelena Yemchuk

June 13th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

With an eye for the off-kilter side of feminine imagery, Yelena Yemchuk has made a name for herself in the world of fashion photography, creating striking visuals for magazines like Vogue Italia, Numero, Dazed & Confused and countless others. Though her big break came with the covers for Smashing Pumpkin’s now classic albums, her fashion work is no less stellar. In her latest work for 25 Magazine she taps into Carmen Kass‘s inner chameleon, creating a stripped down showcase for the iconic beauty’s transformation skills.

Transformation is a recurring theme in Yemchuk’s photos, every woman she captures takes on a bold new character, whether it is actress Kirsten Dunst going ethereal at the seashore, or Eniko Mihalik becoming a surrealist masterwork, the changes are always intriguing to see.

Resort Hits

June 8th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Another season, another set of wearable designs for resort, even if you aren’t headed to your summer house for a seasonal stopover you’re sure to find something you like. Here’s what we’ve been loving from Resort so far – be sure to tell us your favorites in the comments!

BALENCIAGA
Pictured on Liya Kebede, Marte Mei van Haaster & Meghan Collison

Ballet inspired minimalism, that offers a welcome respite from the 80s infused disco vibe that Ghesquière has been giving us lately. A simple, elegant and dare we say it – pretty, collection that feels new. Plus, it goes without saying that those slate & coral heels are set to become an editorial (and street style) sensation.

GUCCI
Pictured on Bette Franke, Karmen Pedaru & Nadja Bender

The Gucci flora print is iconic and Frida has always found interesting ways of incorporating it into her designs. The Resort collection offers a colorful and feminine take on the Gucci standards and even boasts a little restraint – there is only one pastel suit!

DEREK LAM
Pictured on Monika Sawicka & Ava Smith

We admit that we don’t quite see the Coming to America inspiration, but we’re happy that Derek Lam looked to a film that hasn’t been run into the ground for inspiration. All we see is clean, classic American design with a modern twist and really we can’t complain about that.

Clean Sweep

June 7th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Modern minimalism with a shot of color reigns supreme in Josh Olins‘s sleek British Vogue story. Styled by Lucinda Chambers and featuring heaps of Celine, Marni and Dries Van Noten, the story represents a thinking woman’s idea of chic, an ideal encapsulated in the striking Suvi Koponen. Pared down hair & makeup by Samantha Hillerby and Samantha Bryant, completes the look with style and panache.

Roversi Rock

June 6th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Paolo Roversi.
7000 Magazine
Caterina Ravaglia.

His work is most often associated with dreamy romanticism and the fantastica, but Roversi can bring magic to any scenario. In leather jackets and darkly beautiful gowns chosen by Sheila Single, Caterina plays a different breed of muse, one that is strong, elegant and completely in control.
