Little Monsters

February 14th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

If you break from your busy fashion week schedule to take a look at one editorial, it ought to be Love Magazines imaginative and raw Tim Walker story, ‘The Origin of Monsters’ featuring Kristen McMenamy. Arachnophobes might want to skip this one, but everyone else can enjoy the spooky mix of oversized insects and a host of prime pieces with unusual origins chosen by Katie Grand. There is some vintage Dior couture (you may remember the golden armor from 06) a couple of chain mail headdresses from the Royal National Theater and of course the edgy editorial prerequisite, Alexander McQueen. It might be too early to start picking 2012’s best stories, but Kristen as an otherworldly, monster slayer certainly qualifies as a standout.

Back to Basics

February 14th, 2012 |Posted by Betty

The latest L’Officiel Hommes Italia, the second under new EIC, Pablo Arroyo, brings models back to the cover and we’re not complaining, especially when it’s someone as iconic as male modeling mainstay Werner Schreyer (wearing Dior Homme) as photographed by Tomo Brejc and styled by fashion director of L’OHI, Emil Rebek. Actor Max Irons along with Tyson Ballou, Andre Feulner, David Kammenos and Bastiaan Van Gaalen round out the cast of the new issue, hitting the stands this week.

Striking A Chord

February 8th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

This season has been full of striking ads and the latest batch doesn’t disappoint when it comes to arresting visuals.

ALEXANDER McQUEEN
Ph. David Sims | Stylist: Camilla Nickerson

McQueen goes angelic for S/S with Zuzanna Bijoch posing in a heavenly Sims shot that calls to mind classic religious imagery.

CELINE
Ph. Juergen Teller

Juergen’s ads for Celine are instantly recognizable, but throw in the all star cast of Marie Piovesan and Stella Tennant and you have the makings of an unforgettable ad.

PRABAL GURUNG
Ph. Daniel Jackson | Stylist: Tiina Laakkonen | Hair: Didier Malige | Makeup: Hannah Murray

Is there anything Candice Swanepoel can’t do? The South African beauty pulls off dark hair and some serious yoga poses in the debut ads for Prabal’s label. Those stunning violet dresses from the show have never looked better.

EDUN
Ph. Ryan McGinley | Models: Bradley Soileau, Charlotte Free, David, Dempsey Stewart, Ehren Dorsey, and Herieth Paul

Butterflies float across the page in Ryan McGinley’s ethereal shots for Edun. The soft colors and cast of ultra-cool newcomers makes this shoot memorable.

The Surreal Life

February 7th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

When Steven Meisel selects a model from thousands of girls working today, it means something. It takes a special girl to captivate the industry’s premier photographer and Laura Kampman has done just that. Take a look at her Vogue Italia cover story to see just what Miss Kampman brings to the table: her off-kilter appeal is showcased in a series of surrealist shots that owe as much to Dali as they do to Meisel. Looking at home in black veils and blue lips, Laura enlivens some of fashion’s most original pieces. Karl TemplerPat McGrath and Guido Palau‘s talents combine to create a beautiful showcase for the season’s infatuation with the otherworldly and the special girl who captures the mood of the moment.

Brit Wit

February 6th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

British Vogue always manages to feature some of our favorite girls in decidedly different ways. This month the mag transforms ethereal gypsy Abbey Lee Kershaw into a 60s siren, gives Zuzanna Bijoch the minimalist treatment and provides Karlie Kloss with entry into a world of pure kitsch. The dramatic, colorful and just slightly kooky stories, make for an especially strong issue and the perfect compliment to that candy colored Lana Del Rey cover.

The retro vibe of Abbey Lee Kershaw‘s dreamy story by by Alasdair McLellan is enhanced by the fact that it was shot in Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor’s former home: Francesca Burns‘ styling really shines here.

Zuzanna Bijoch‘s severe shots by David Sims feature standout pieces from BalenciagaComme des Garcons and Miu Miu selected by none other than Joe McKenna.

The Mario Testino helmed meditation on excess is filled with patterns, prints and other forms of opulent ornamentation chosen by Lucinda Chambers and worn by Karlie Kloss.
