Quick Change Artist

July 27th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

As one of the few models to ascend to the numero uno position on Top 50, Raquel Zimmermann has had the kind of career few models can hope for. Top tier campaigns? Booked ‘em all. Coveted covers? Been there, done that. Seeing Raquel on the cover of Italian Vogue this month isn’t all that surprising, but Steven Meisel’s image of the famously blonde Brazilian as an aloof brunette feels unexpected. The curly wig renders Raquel almost unrecognizable and the simple image lets us know that we’re in for a studio shoot all about transformation.

Given the apt “versatile” headline, scrawled on the cover in lavender letters, we’re guessing that Meisel understands exactly what Miss Zimmermann’s appeal is all about. No one disappears into a new guise quite the way she does – take a look at the wildly different, flame haired look on her previous VI cover almost a decade ago.

Forties Femme

July 26th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Vogue Germany shows a sensuous side of Anais Pouliot in Horst Diekgerdes latest for the magazine. Styled by Julia von Boehm and featuring a series of retro looks from Vuitton and Etro, the elegant story is equal parts flirty and seductive. With her gorgeous updo and hourglass curves, Anais calls to mind the classic sirens of the period.

Fit To Be Tied

July 25th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Is it just us or has fashion felt a little tamer in the wake of Carine Roitfeld‘s departure from Vogue Paris? In case you had forgotten what an audaciously sexy fashion editorial looked like Numero sets out to remind you with a bondage-y romp shot by Tom Munro and featuring the undeniably appealing Aymeline Valade.

Stealing a title and theme from Almodovar, while borrowing a bit of Helmut Newton-esque panache for good measure, the story is sultry, steamy and filled with the finest lace garters money can buy. Stylist Charles Varenne knows exactly how to titillate with pieces from Givenchy and Giorgio Armani.

Handsome Girl

July 25th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Has Freja Beha Erichsen graduated from star model to full fledged fashion icon? Vogue China seems to think so, enlisting Tao Okamoto to recreate Freja’s signature tomboy-chic look in Lachlan Bailey‘s beauty story. Styled by Clare Richardson and featuring leather and denim duds from Chanel and Calvin Klein, the story does a good job recreating Freja’s quintessential model off duty style. Always fun to see one model pay tribute to another, perhaps next month we can have the tables turned with Freja sporting Tao’s memorable bowl cut.

Winners Circle

July 22nd, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Vman Magazine and Ford Models‘s annual modeling contest never fails to excite with its selection of handsome fresh faces and the 2011 eleven winners New Jersey’s Matthew Terry and Indiana’s Clark Cord look phenomenal on Steven Klein‘s dual covers. The Archetypes Issue tagline promises an “inventory of masculinity” and though were not quite sure what that is hinting at, we’re always happy to see fresh faces on magazine covers.
