Musings of A Muse

December 22nd, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin‘s campaigns for YSL have always utilized the industry’s best models to create iconic imagery. Who can forget those great shots of Claudia Schiffer posing in front of the Hollywood sign, or Naomi Campbell looking luxe in those sequined harem pants back in F/W 08? The brand has always been smart about combining the right model and setting and this season’s ads are no exception. After seasons of supers, the fresh faced Arizona Muse takes the reigns and looks incredible as she lounges in Marrakech.

Seasonal Reboots

December 21st, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Two of fashion’s biggest brands refresh their images with crisp new ad campaigns that offer up fresh takes on their aesthetics. Steven Meisel shoots Gisele Bundchen for Balenciaga and strips the supermodel of her patented sex appeal for a sporty and boyish campaign that captures the pared down look of the collection itself. Yuri Pleskun joins La Bundchen on the romp, sporting layers of face paint by Pat McGrath

Beige is the signature color of Hannah MacGibbon’s Chloe, so it makes sense that David Sims‘ campaign is almost entirely ecru. Malgosia Bela and Iselin Steiro look casually chic in the line’s classic silhouettes and clean lines.

Moody Blues

December 20th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Chad Pitman creates a blue tinted world for Numero, with a story starring the lovely, Julija Steponaviciute. The edgy tale features Charles Varenne‘s eclectically styled mix of leather, lace and denim and Francelle Daly‘s stunning use of NARS cosmetics on Julija’s eyes. The rich shades of cobalt and sapphire used throughout the story make for a surreal take on a perfectly pretty tale.

Peter Lindbergh brings his film inspired aesthetic back to the pages of Vogue with beautiful editorial that looks fit for the screen. Daria Werbowy and actor David Strathairn team up, playing a photographer and a reporter turned muse in Lindbergh’s story and Grace Coddington provides the elegant styling.
