Camilla Akrans delves into the classic mystique of James Dean for Numero Homme, enlisting none other than Mathias Lauridsen to capture the sensuality and grace behind Dean’s lasting mystique. The role seems made for Mathias and he nails it in each and every shot. It’s amazing how eerily similar some of Akran’s pictures are to Roy Schatt’s famous torn shirt portraits of Dean are.

What is the best way to spice up a plain ol’ fashioned studio shoot? The answer boils down to three words – casting, casting, casting. Take a look at Jason Kibbler‘s latest Vogue China editorial for a taste of what young blood can do to enliven a familiar concept. Madisyn Ritland, Bara Holotova and Shu Pei bring their A-game to the table and enliven what would ordinarily be just another white backdrop shoot. Guinevere Van Seenus will always be one of the most compelling faces to emerge in recent memory so seeing her on the cover of October’s Dazed and Confused is a special treat. Daniel Jackson taps into Guinevere’s unparalleled ability to bring sexiness with edge and creates a story that gives us Miss Van Seenus at her very best. Where else but Dazed could you get a story that mixes bondage masks and Margiela? Killer combo.

Patrick Petitjean is in a class by himself. The always original male model graces Vogue Hommes International in Mario Sorrentis biker themed denim editorial. With the luscious Eniko Mihalik by his side, Patrick cruises down dirt roads, lounges in the grass and of course takes a cigarette break. With his trademark beard and unkempt hauteur Patrick is as always the perfect modern rebel.

Tim’s World

September 16th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

The macabre world created by director Tim Burton has always been a source of fashion inspiration – how many goth themed editorials have you seen that look like something straight out of A Nightmare Before Christmas – so its no surprise that on the eve of his retrospective at MOMA Bazaar pays tribute to his aesthetic with a fun filled editorial. Tim Walker shoots Malgosia Bela, Sophie Srej and Evelina Mambetova (talk about pitch perfect casting) alongside the director for the latest issue. Wearing fanciful creations from the likes of McQueen, Nina Ricci and Yamamoto the girls look ready for cameos in any of Burton’s films.

Blonde Fantasy

September 14th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Ana Claudia Michels strips down for Sebastian Faena‘s camera in the latest VMan. The pristine Ms. Michels manages to look seductive and innocent at the same time – her ethereal beauty is highlighted by Nicola Formichetti‘s styling (the perfect white shirt does not pick itself) and Faena’s soft photographs. Adding to the dreamy quality of the editorial are Silvia Prada‘s lovely sketches of Ana Claudia in all her glory – a fitting tribute to the total package blond goddess.
