A Mighty Wind

July 27th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

You can almost feel the cool breeze when you look at Steven Meisel‘s shots for Alberta Ferretti. The windswept campaign features Madisyn Ritland, Dorothea Barth Jorgensen, Viktoriya Sosonkina and Nimue Smit lounging in a library as the books blow by. All the girls look elegant in Ferretti’s chic creation and the wind motif makes for a unique visual.

Fast As You Can

July 27th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

It takes a fresh voice to bring something new to the world of campaigns and this season Ryan McGinley is doing just that. While his work on the Stella McCartney campaign is ever-so-slightly overshadowed by the presence of those cartoon animals, the photographer’s playful style comes to the forefront with his work for Missoni. The F/W campaign featuring the luminous Hanne Gaby Odiele, speeding by on the back of a pickup truck is fast paced, colorful and filled with energy. Just the shot in the arm campaign season needed.

Shape Shifter

July 24th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Collaboration is what makes fashion great. The latest Dazed & Confused pays tribute to the fashions of 80s innovator Maria Blaisse and her legendary sculptural shapes. Jason Kibbler‘s pictures of Hana Soukupova wearing pieces from Givenchy and Margiela reworked by stylist Karen Langley and set designer Gary Card to mimic the signature Blaisse look, are cool and dynamic. As always Hana manages to bring that extra touch of elegance but each element of the story can stand alone.

Perfume Posse

July 24th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Fragrance campaigns are a major coup for any girl lucky enough to land one and the latest set of perfume ads to emerge feature the biggest stars of the moment. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shoot perennial favorite, Raquel Zimmermann for Viktor & Rolf‘s Eau Mega. The larger than life ads feature a giant Raquel dominating a golden cityscape. Dior goes for a more traditional route with Edita Vilkeviciute‘s tropic themed Escale à Portofino ads while Prada revamps its S/S Steven Meisel helmed muse campaign with Viktoriya Sosonkina, Anna Jagodzinska, Toni Garrn and Ymre Stiekema. Note the devilish gleam in Anna’s eyes as she aims the atomizer straight for Toni.

Almost Perfect

July 24th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

There are a million things that are right about Iris Strubegger‘s Vogue Nippon cover – her captivating gaze, the lean silhouette created by her pose, that stunning satin dress, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin‘s photography – it all works perfectly. Of course, all these wonderful things would be all the more special if it wasn’t for the giant letter “U” blocking Iris’ face. Do you find the text distracting or does the cover work for you all the same? Even with the little bit of text one has to admit that this is an incredible way to kick off this years round of September covers.
