Eva Gives Back

May 27th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Eva Herzigova is on a mission. The Czech supermodel has teamed with the DKMS to spread the word about the simple way we can help children with leukemia and others in need. After hearing the heartbreaking story of five year old, Kai Anderson’s struggle with leukemia and his family’s search for a donor, Eva decided to get involved and find a way to use her position to raise awareness. The goal of the ‘Get Swabbed, Save A Life‘ campaign is simple – the creation of a worldwide DNA database in order to help find matches for bone marrow transplants. As large as this undertaking is the process itself is non-invasive – swabbing the cheek takes five seconds and can ultimately make the difference between life and death.

Watch the video to learn even more and visit DKMS America to find out how you can get involved too.

Anja Rubik is on a roll. This month the  beauty graces the cover of Vogue Paris looking playful  as shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin but the real fun lies inside the issue where Terry Richardson shoots Anja on a whirlwind tour of Paris. Whether she’s being admired by grand dames or rollerskating in front of the Eiffel Tower, Anja looks like she’s having an absolute ball.

Allen by Sean Thomas for 10 Men Summer 2009. pic from 10’s website.

10 Men Summer 2009, ph: Sean Thomas. Pic from one of our favorite magazines’website. And yes, they have a blog!  Welcome aboard!

Because of the long Memorial Day weekend in the US, we have a jam packed bits and bytes for you….

Check out top stylist Nicola Formichetti‘s interview in the Telegraph (and get a load of his supercool apartment).

Remember model Mark Hug, who did Ralph Lauren and Versace as well as Abercrombie & Fitch? Apparently he’s casting Abercrombie now!

Jesus Luz talks on Brazilian TV. Here MIB translates some of it.

Dorothea Barth Jorgensen, our day in the life of model this past fashion week, is interviewed by Ponyryder!

Here’s a post on some of your favorite Brazilian models’ style.

Sao Paulo Fashion Week has reached an agreement with the Sao Paulo public ministry to fight racism. “São Paulo Fashion Week has the legal duty to suggest that all designers and labels include at least 10% of black or indigenous models on the castings for the shows.” If the designers don’t, they could be fined for not meeting the 10% quota.

Vogue Hommes Japan interviews Alexander Wang.

4 things wrong and 1 thing right. Here’s some more insight into the modeling drama, The Beautiful Life. It stars Mischa Barton, Elle McPherson and is produced by Ashton Kutcher, himself an ex-model.

If you missed the stars in Cannes for AMFAR, get a look here. Look at how glamorous Claudia Schiffer, Peaches Geldorf, Lily Cole and Carine Roitfeld all look.

Here’s a little less glamorous side to the modeling world. Lily Cole shows us what all those years of jamming her feet into high, tight gorgeous shoes does for them.

To Boldly Go…

May 26th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Givenchy steps into fresh territory for F/W 09, enlisting Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott to create a quintessentially French scene of beauties lounging in the Château de Ferrières. As always Mariacarla Boscono is front and center but she is joined by Iris Strubegger and much buzzed about newcomer Ranya Mordanova, whose signature crop and natural austerity make her a perfect fit for the house. On the menswear side, newcomer Manuel Ramos does his first tour of duty for the brand, Simon Nessman completes his 3rd season for the brand while Jakob Wiechmann does his second; the boys certainly look edgy in Tisci’s naval inspired vision for men.

Perhaps the most eye-catching surprise is Adriana Lima‘s goth makeover, building on her surprise runway revival at the F/W show the Brazilian bombshell is given the Mert & Marcus treatment and looks more high fashion than she has in years.

Bits and Bytes: Mario

Mario at Place is a new face from the German agency. For more pics, click here.

There’s an interesting behind the scenes debate going on. Who will be the next number 1 female model?

The coolest Vogue editor, Sally Singer, is photographed at the Chelsea Hotel by the Selby.

In lots of Pat McGrath news this week, MDC visits her at the Dolce & Gabbana cosmetics debut, she’s featured in the NY Times, and has a fashion week video game product that’s about to launch. This woman does it all!

You don’t have to sell us on Raquel Zimmermann but here’s a few more reasons why she rocks.

Models meet the comic book genre. Mary Jane (Spiderman’s girlfriend) is apparently one.

Beautiful British actress (Spiderman 3 and the upcoming Serge Gainsbourg movie) and former model Lucy Gordon found dead in Paris of an apparent suicide. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends.

Out of This World!

May 21st, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Its hard to find a girl whose look is classically appealing and completely otherworldly but Georgina Stojiljkovic manages to be both. With her full lips and streamlined features her face is pitch perfect for beauty shots but there is just a little touch of peculiarity that makes it dynamic. We are treated to far too little of Georgina’s truly distinctive presence but as they say, quality is better than quantity. Mark Pillai taps into the futuristic side of Georgina’s appeal shooting her in the seasons most esoteric ensembles – courtesy of Katie Shillingford‘s on point styling. The story feels trippy, edgy and at times alien, which makes it perfect for the always cutting-edge ethos of Dazed and Confused. Georgina takes on each space-age character perfectly, channelling a myriad of sci-fi heroines while bringing her own allure to each shot.
