Ladies First

February 13th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Too often modeling can be a form of child’s play – most models strutting their stuff down the runway are barely old enough to drive let alone drink. With our culture’s youth obsession it’s easy to forget that true beauty can be the product of age and experience, not just pristine genes.

Leave it to a true legend like Jerry Hall to remind us of the merits of maturity. Karl Lagerfeld tapped into Hall’s inner siren for Chanel’s latest accessories campaign where Jerry plays Baptiste Giabiconi‘s lady love. Literature fans will recognize Colette’s Cheri as the inspiration but anyone can enjoy the elegant images and their coy seductiveness. Youngsters take note, this is how you do it!

The Select

February 12th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Select Model Management is having a moment. With the market cornered on cool London youth the agency lands 6 of the month’s most talked about covers. First Pixie Geldof lands front and center on the cover of Vogue Italia in perhaps the most inadvertently controversial cover so far this year, then Ash Stymest and Eliza Cummins double team for Dazed and Confused. Punk princess Alice Dellal adds her edge to i-D, sharing space with the ‘so hot right now’ Eliza and Daisy Lowe and the eternally iconic Stella Tennant. Last but certainly not least, who lands in said i-D but one of our favorite 80’s mannequins, Jeny Howarth, looking as legendary as ever.

Sigrid Sightings

February 12th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Sigrid Agren has the makings of a true fashion chameleon. This month the budding star takes on three very different personas. First a wild bohemian turn for Vogue Italia shot by Craig McDean then a classic look for Bazaar via Tom Munro. Finally the ingenue becomes a portrait of undone elegance for Willy Vanderperre. While each shoot is a work of art onto itself Sigrid infuses all her characters with a poise and energy all her own.

In the urbanely themed editorial Cat is followed by a white rabbit as she checks out many of New York’s most notable locations. Brana Wolf‘s edgy and modern styling may be very downtown but all the action takes place north of Soho. With her feline features and seductive gaze, Catherine creates the perfect image of a city girl on the go.

My Little Toni

February 11th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Toni Garrn takes on cowboy style, the alluring teen from Hamburg may be a city slicker but she looks every bit the countrified lady between the pages of Vogue Germany. Greg Kadel shoots Toni alongside ponies, peonies and the sprawling landscape of the high plains. The western styling by Katie Mossman brings the whole look together creating a compelling and sexy vision of the wild west.
