Bits & Bytes: Ghost World

May 10th, 2012 |Posted by Betty

We’re really enjoying Stevie Dance‘s new shopping site SHOP GHOST. Here’s the lovely Hannah Holman on Marc Jacobs, her favorite store in New York and her rings of choice at the moment.

Vogue and a slew of industry heavyweights like Tomas Meier, Jack Pierson, Doug Lloyd and Stewart Shining are looking for the next bright young photographer. The winner gets $10,000, a mentorship from Management Artists and a Red Epic-X camera. Get all the details here.

Here’s an insider’s view of the under-age factor for models by former Vogue bookings editor and model agent, Trudi Tapscott.

Here’s another reason models that aren’t emotionally ready for the rigors of the industry should not be allowed to work. The dangers of being a vulnerable young woman is highlighted in the Model Alliance’s article on the death of a model, seen from the perspective of her former roommate.

Read Ponyryder’s interview with current Vogue Italia cover girl Chrystal Copland.

Speaking of Vogue Italia, their sister site, Vogue Italia Curvy features Muse Models’ new plus size division.

“I saw beautiful young people who didn’t make it in that industry just because their look didn’t happen to be the look of the moment. I knew this wasn’t going to be a lasting, secure place to earn my income”

Who remembers Kathy Ireland, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model of the 80′s? Since then she’s quietly built a 2 BILLION dollar empire along with being a major philanthropist. A fascinating and inspirational read.

Photographer and TV personality Amanda de Cadenet’s new series on Lifetime has us intrigued. Check out their FB page for more info, The Conversation, or their website, The Conversation.TV.

Yes, as WWD says, “The Time 100 list is a little light in the fashion department this year.” Guess who made the cut as one of their most influential people? See Time’s full list here. This is the magazine however that forgot some pretty major fashion icons.

When you’re written about on NPR, you know you’re more than the average male model. See what’s up next for Andrej Pejic.

Cats! Fashion! Cats in fashion! The season’s trends as worn by a furry little friend is pretty darned adorable.

Our friends at Interview Magazine are looking for photo interns. Email resumes to aoneill@brantpub.com. You MUST be in New York to apply.

Sarah and friends try out all the ice cream in Milan.

We’re obsessed with models who shoot but Sara Blomqvist‘s images for The Last Magazine are especially fun: New York, Milan, Paris. (view it large for the full effect).

Claudia Schiffer by Ellen Von Unwerth, Guess 30th Anniversary Campaign Spring 2012

What child of the 80′s doesn’t remember Claudia Schiffer‘s iconic images by Ellen von Unwerth for Guess? She returns for the new campaign celebrating Guess’ 30th Anniversary (full story on WWD, subscription required)

Tao Okamoto, the lovely Japanese model is still tirelessly working to help victims of the Japanese disaster. “Contrary to some reports insinuating that Japan is a wealthy country that does not need help, there is indeed much need for assistance, and not just of the financial kind, but of physical and mental as well“. Check out their new Tumblr, where you can make donations, learn about different charitable organizations and send messages to people in affected areas.

Bits & Bytes: The Next Gen

November 2nd, 2011 |Posted by Betty

Only in fashion can a boy in Ksubi shorts hang out with a girl dressed in a Burberry coat. Love this story by Thomas Cooksey for Contributing Editor, styled by Kim Howells for Contributing Editor. With the amazing Harry Goodwins and Stephanie Rad.

Who doesn’t love Azzedine Alaïa? Well, we know one editrix who doesn’t but everyone else certainly does. Read his interview with Style.com’s Dirk Standen.

Artist Jirka Väätäinen recreates Disney princesses. Who thinks Sleeping Beauty looks like Lara Stone meets Emily Baker?

One of our favorite runway coaches, Mac Folkes creates this really cool magazine that shows us why print is still so very viable.

Watch former Prada campaign face, Rasa Zukauskaite tongue twisting in her native Lithuanian.

Obsessed with Florence Welch and her work with Chanel. Watch the backstage video of the S/S 12 show with Florence’s amazing voice.

In the 80′s and 90′s Carré Otis was one of the original supermodels. Her new book, Beauty Disrupted,  details her battles with anorexia, drug addiction, violence, suicide, domestic violence and rape by the owner of her agency, Gerald Marie. I hope that other models will not have to face the same sad and tragic events Carré dealt with.

Bits & Bytes: So Clean

October 26th, 2011 |Posted by Betty

The Ones2Watch new issue with the theme: So Clean, looks pristine. Check out the gorgeous Dutch boy Steven from Tony Jones Management photographed by Marco Van Rijt.

Calling all photographers, creative industry folk: Hasselblad, maker of the iconic cameras is hosting a 2 day event on Thursday and Friday in New York (Oct 27, 28). From 10-5pm, there will be live shooting stages and free seminars; from 5-8pm, the happy hour will have refreshments/music.

We are officially obsessed with Irina Werning. The Argentinean artist recreates childhood pictures with the painstaking detail of the truly obsessed. We first saw her shooting for V Man‘s male supermodel story, then in L’Officiel’s 90th Anniversary issue. Go to her website for more fascinating images.

Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Carine RoitfeldSaskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls, oh my!  The first woman of color to front a Chanel campaign in a looooong time.

We love how Ralph Lauren‘s hands still get sweaty before a show!

How much do we love Opening Ceremony’s Lookbook? Smiles, flowers, and excellent casting, makes me want to shop there even more than I normally do.
