Valentino’s Youth Quake

January 15th, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

Looking at the names behind many of the seasons campaigns can often give you a sense of déjà vu. For whatever reason, brands almost always go with a certain set of established photographers; Meisel, Klein, Teller, Testino – all incredible, but at this point they are also the usual suspects. It is rare for a new name to make its way onto the campaign list, but this season Valentino‘s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli went with relatively unknown photographer, Michal Pudelkal-pudelka-to-shoot-spring-ads-8108958″>Telling WWD they went with a new photographer specifically for the fresh perspective, “Talent must be supported.” says Chiuri “He is not well known, but we were impressed by his images; you can see strength and fragility at the same time. His aesthetic taste is poetic, and he has a cinematographic vision. He is not informed on fashion, he has more of an artistic path and it’s interesting to see how he works, with preparatory sketches, as he draws the sets for the photos.” The choice makes for a refreshing campaign, models Vanessa Moody, Grace Simmons, Hedvig Palm, Maartje Verhoef and Clémentine Deraedt feature in a series of ethereal shots created on the beaches of Punta Ala.

Utilizing makeup as a contemporary mask showcases the timelessness of the human form; but with or without makeup, the beauty of the young men is undeniable. See more at Fucking Young online.

Models: Shaun Ross, León C. de López and Oliver Lewis.

La Clique

January 13th, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

Steven Klein (Art Partner)
Edward Enninful
W Magazine.

Fashion is ruled by cliques and W pays tribute to the season’s fiercest girl gangs with an ultra-slick set of portraits filled with top models & newcomers. With Edward Enninful pulling out the very best in Spring fashions and Steven Klein serving up saturated colors and off-kilter scenarios the story crackles with energy. Shon and Val Garland work overtime to create a series of larger than life looks, from coquettes dressed in oversized bows, to camo clad soldier girls to create a cross-section of the season’s dominant archetypes.

Saint Laurent’s Kids

January 13th, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

Hedi Slimane‘s vision for Saint Laurent Paris has always leaned towards an exploration of youth culture and the designer / photographer’s latest campaign for the venerable brand hammers home those ideas with stripped down images of lanky beauties with carefree attitudes. Led by show opener Kiki Willems, Slimane’s lineup of chic yet undone kids looks rawer than usual. Gone are the stylized black and white shots of previous seasons and in their place is a gritty series of images straight out of rock n’roll. With Marjan Jonkman and a tattooed guitarist James (who Slimane street casted himself) rounding out the lineup, Slimane creates an appealing realism that lends his luxurious clothes a grunge sensibility.

Pretty in Pink – Male models walk the runway for Sibling S/S15

London’s menswear shows have been in full swing with designers serving up bold looks that have been more daring than ever before. Highlights included a madcap pink showing at Sibling, Christopher Bailey’s dramatically bohemian turn at Burberry and JW Anderson’s streamlined take on 70s style luxe.

Cathy Horyn, the iconic former New York Times fashion critic and one of the most respected voices within the industry resurfaces at The Cut, becoming the publication’s Fashion Editor at Large. The move marks a major coup for web based publications and given The Cut’s acerbic, witty tone should make for some truly memorable collection reviews in the near future.

Though we knew Frida Gianinni‘s exit from Gucci was imminent we didn’t expect it to come quite so soon. Today Gucci confirmed the designer’s early exit, making the move a month earlier than expected and before the Gucci menswear show even hits the runway – could a new successor be announced earlier as well? Only time will tell.

Justin Bieber & Lara Stone by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (Art Partner) for Calvin Klein

Who is the most talked about male model of the moment? Pop star turned tabloid fixture Justin Bieber takes top honors. Justin Bieber’s fashion moment starts with his underwear & denim campaigns for Calvin Klein and continues with a shirtless turn for Karl Lagerfeld in V Magazine‘s music issue. The pop star has never been shy about showing off his body. If you remember what he did last Fashion Rocks, you won’t be surprise to see the smoking hot ad for Calvin Klein Jeans with Lara Stone.

Joan Didion by Juergen Teller for Celine / Joni Mitchell by Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent

Campaigns aren’t only for young models. For spring, Phoebe Philo invited an unexpected Celine muse- Joan Didion, the famous author of Play It as It Lays. In the Celine campaign, Didion shows off her classic with a black turtleneck and oversize sunglasses. Not to be outdone theSaint Laurent 2015 ad campaign features a talented 70’s singer-songwriter- Joni Mitchell for the latest in Hedi Slimane‘s musician series.

Cara Delevingne never stops multitasking; modeling, acting, singing and now editing. Cara gets her new title, Fashion Editor for Love Magazine. We all love her funny face on Instagram but what her writing style will be? Humorous or just classic? Can’t wait to see it!

Marant Moves

January 12th, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

The Isabel Marant woman for spring is powerful, energetic and apparently quite flexible too. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin helm the brand’s striking new campaign starring Natasha Poly with creative direction by Atelier Franck Durand. The bold images feature Natasha giving poses worthy of a yogi and displaying Marant’s modern art infused Spring collection. Still-lifes showcase covetable items like the soon to be ubiquitous Marant flat sandal. In case you’re wondering where to pick up any of these looks the boldfaced text on each photo outlines the line’s global retail presence.
