Native Son designer Kyle Fitzgibbons looked inward for Fall 2012 with a quiet and introspective collection that rooted around in search of the essence of the four-year-old label. No longer the brand-new upstart and looking to grow, Fitzgibbons presented a collection that was sharp and tough, both forward-thinking and historically-minded. The season marked the beginning of a collaboration with Raleigh Denim, a brand that shares Fitzgibbons’ interest in American heritage and classic designs. There were several standout outerwear pieces, like a number of cropped jackets and sturdy parkas that played with proportions, and the suiting was—as always—beautifully cut and perfectly made. As Lowell Tautchin said about his wool flannel suit, “I put it on, and I just felt like a better person.”
